Topic 1b - Supporting Operational Priorities and Knowledge Exchange Through the ESA-ADB Partnership
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the European Space Agency (ESA) have successfully collaborated on a number of projects over the years. From 2013 to 2015, they completed 12 different activities to support a variety of Asian Development Bank projects. In 2015 an agreement was signed to collaborate over the next five years to use information from space to support sustainable development. ESA, ADB and the World Bank are now working together on the Global Development Assistance (GDA) Partnership.
ADB's Strategy 2030 sets seven operational priorities, each having its own operational plan. The operational plans contribute to ADB’s vision to achieve prosperity, inclusion, resilience, and sustainability, and are closely aligned with Strategy 2030 principles and approaches. The ADB has been looking at how to incorporate technology, particularly new technology, into the design of their projects and programmes in each of the seven operational priority areas within the vision of ADB strategy 2030. By utilising satellite observation technology, they can help improve the implementation of projects covering liveable cities, rural areas and food security, for example.
The One Map initiative was launched in Indonesia in order to standardise spatial data across the country and create a single base map that can be used by all agencies.
This film looks at examples of how ESA, ADB and local agencies in Indonesia have worked together to utilise Earth Observation in support of local priorities.
